The Canadian Institute of Planners
is sponsoring a ‘Great Places in Canada’ contest with
public nominations made through their website. Nomination and web
voting closed March 25, 2011 with our favourite street collecting
764 votes. Overall, Hamilton showed itself to be a 'very connected'
city with several top nominations in Hamilton.
A panel of judges from will select the finalists in April, with
the winners announced in May.
“We’re seeing a great deal of friendly rivalry as
Canadians vote for their local places,” says Steven Brasier,
Executive Director of the Canadian Institute of Planners.
Overall, Locke Street placed in the top 20 Nominations across
Canada. In the "streets" category Locke Street placed
third with top honours going to Ottawa Street and fourth place
to James Street North. Hamilton's passion for our city no doubt
came through in the voting and we know our gems are often hidden
from outsiders, but we love to share them!
