Report from Kirkendall South
Our last meeting (it was also our first) in November was well
attended.
There was some discussion about the frequency of meetings.
Regular neighbourhood meetings will be held every few months,
or four per year.
Kirkendall South is bounded by Chedoke, Queen, Aberdeen and the
escarpment. If you have email addresses of anyone else living
in this neighbourhood,
please forward this message on to them.
A few of you volunteered to be Block Captains. I will be
calling you to enlist help in distributing notices to each home
in the neighbourhood.
The agenda for April's meeting is:
- review of minutes from November meeting (there are still some
outstanding items)
- graffiti abatement (it's serious, it's ugly and it requires
volunteer work to clean up)
- the upcoming bike race (just for discussion so everyone knows
about it)
- Night Out in August (traditionally organized by Kirkendall
North, but we're going to help this time)
- Community Policing Centre (a lot of spade work has been done
by Richard Palmer and others. The goal is to have a location,
probably on Locke St.
staffed by both police and community volunteers.)
- Anything else that people raise (as long as it's relevant
to Neighbourhood Watch).
See you on the 28th at Beth Jacob Synagogue.

Report from Kirkendall North
At our March 5, 2003 meeting we were delighted
to have one of our new police officers attend.
He spoke about the possibility of Block Captains riding along
with police officers for a couple of times. He will check if that

Some suggestions that have come forward since our new co-ordinator

- Joining a number of our meetings, lockestreet.com etc. with
the new group in Kirkendall South.
- Having meetings only four times a year and inviting guest
speakers from the Police Department examples being BEAR, I.D. etc
or a speaker about the Cycling events being held
on Queen Street and area this May and Oct. and the concentrated
effort to clean up the Graffiti on the Bike Race Route going
through our Neighbourhood.
- Personally contacting our 63 block captains, a few at a time
to invite them to meetings, to ask about their concerns perhaps
change meeting times when they are at Rec Center Saturday morning
with their children?
- Policing Center on Locke Street: a renewed interest
- Ride along in police car for block captains –
police are looking into this concept
Please Note:
Before our next meeting on May 7 we are going to be asking our
