When You Go Away on Vacation
Whether you go away for the day or for a weeks vacation,
use automatic timers that will turn lights on and off and give your
home an occupied appearance. Here are some more tips.
-
Leave a door key with a trusted neighbour and a key to the
burglar alarm system, if you have one.
-
Notify close neighbours about how long you will be gone and
details of any persons who will be visiting your home during
your absence.
-
Have a neighbour pick up newspapers and mail or discontinue
all deliveries.
-
Arrange to have your snow shoveled.
-
If you have a second carleave it in your driveway, or
arrange to have a neighbour park a car in your driveway.
-
Check all windows and doors to make certain that they are locked.
-
Lock your garage, disconnect your garage door opener.
-
Consider a house sitter.
-
Provide your neighbour with the phone number of a close relative
or friend in case of an emergency.
-
Leave a traveling schedule and phone number with a neighbour
or relative so that you may be contacted if necessary.
-
Store valuables in a safety deposit box.
-
Advise your children not to tell many people the family will
be away.
-
Write your business address on luggage tags.
-
Clear Voice Mail by remote pick up daily.
-
Do a household inventory and mark your belongings with an engraver
(we have them available )
