Graffiti Abatement
With Your Help We Can Make A Difference!
Due to the many issues of graffiti in our area we have set up a
Committee to get rid of it in our community.
Some people have come on board and LockeStreet.com has set up a
discussion forum to address this issue on the community
page to address this issue. If you would like to join the team
please email to nw@lockestreet.com
Meet with the Mayor
Sheila has arranged to meet with Mayor Bob Wade the first Tuesday
of each month @ City Hall from 4:30 to 6:30. This forum would be
used to address Neighbourhood Watch issues such as graffiti, etc.
If you are interested, Sheila is looking for at least 1 other person
to accompany her.
Please contact Sheila at nw@lockestreet.com
Relay For Life
WE NEED YOU
Once again our NW is participating in this great fund raiser for
cancer happening June 21-22, 2002 at the Dofasco Park, on the far
east mountain in Hamilton.
Many from our neighbourhood are already participating and we are
working on our SECOND team of ten.
For more information, please contact Sheila at nw@lockestreet.com
Last years Relay For Life (held overnight from Friday June 22 to
Saturday June 23, 2001 at Dofasco Park) was a great success raising
$110,000 for Cancer charity. Our own Neighbourhood Watch raised
more than $1,200!! This was an all night experience for a very worthwhile
cause.
Our Third Night Out!
Planning is ongoing for our third annual Night Out for KNNW. This
is a free community event held in communities across Canada.
Night Out will once again be held at HAAA Grounds on August 21st
this year.

The Watch In Action
Below is a brief outline of the main conclusions of a meeting held
at a home on Charlton Ave. West between Queen & Kent.
Reprinted with permission from Carol on Charlton Ave. W.
Need to report incidentseven if they are relatively minor.
To ensure that there is an accurate account of incidents in our
neighbourhood, all incidents should be reported to the police and
Neighbourhood Watch (NW) block captains and coordinators.
In our case, these would be:
- Police:
- If incident is in progress or is major Emergency 911
- If incident has taken place (general police inquiries) 905-546-4925
- NW Block Captains
- NW Coordinators: email to nw@lockestreet.com
- The importance of reporting cant be over emphasized:
It is the only way to be eligible for extra police attention
should there be a demonstrable increase in theft, vandalism,
hate or other crimes in our neighbourhood.
- Fill in the NW Neighbour Information Card and keep it near
your phone: Being able to respond appropriately and quickly
when you see something suspicious at one of your neighbours
homes is important. The best way for us to help protect each
others safety and property is to fill out the card with
all our neighbours contact information and be alert
to what is going on around us.
- Lighting: A well-lit home exterior is a good way to deter
thieves. Make sure your property is always well lit. Some
NW members suggested that lights turned on all night, as opposed
to motion detector lights, are more effective in deterring
thieves.
- Being proactive and communicate: Sundays meeting was
a good start to a more proactive, safer Charlton Ave. West.
By continuing to act on any suspicious activity and by communicating
any concerns with one another, we can discourage thugs and
thieves from targeting our neighbourhood.
- The Watch: We have registered anyone at the meeting who
provided an email address with thewatch@lockestreet.com.
This service sends you the NW monthly eNewsletter and eAlerts.
If you prefer not to receive them, you can unsubscribe from
the list on the lockestreet.com website.

Richard Palmer,
