* Block Captain List

So that we all get to know our block captains on our neighbouring streets we are considering issuing a copy of all the block captains to everyone on the list. If you do not want your name, address, phone or e-mail on the list please let me know what part to remove.

THE EYES HAVE IT

A block captain on Canada St. thanks one of our members who stopped and prevented a house brake-in. Thanks to her watchful eye and quick actions the three young teenagers were caught.

Loonie on Locke Street

Our own fundraiser and community awareness campaign
(proposed date Saturday, June 9). From one end of locke to the other, stick your loonie to double-sided tape on the sidewalk and help raise funds for Puppets in Motion & the Proposed Locke Street Policing Centre.

Volunteers Needed

May Clean up

We have been asked by the Kirkendall Association to help in the May clean-up of our neighbourhood. More info to come — possibly the removal of Graffiti from area walls would be
a great project. Would someone like to take charge of this?

Relay For Life

We need You for this great fund raiser for cancer happening June 22-23 at the Dofasco Park. Many from our neighbourhood are already participating and we are working on our third team of ten.
Contact Sheila for more info.

e-Newsletter and e-Alerts

Have you checked out lockestreet.com and our NW pages?
Here's our chance to keep our neighbourhood informed on safety related issues.

We need a new slogan "Wired for Safety Against Crime"
any suggestions??

Please canvas your street and submit e-mail addresses to
thewatch@lockestreet.com

To have an Alert issued send e-mail to nw@lockestreet.com
please include police incident # (note: the incident # will not be published with the alert.)

One on One

In February, I had a one on one chat with P.C.Carmen Pietroniro who is a member of the Hamilton Police and is presently assigned to our area. Carmen spent 10 years on the Toronto Police Force and is married with one child.
Below are additional issues he spoke about.

  1. Gym bags being carried at night in alleys etc. are a tip off that maybe someone is steeling items from cars or homes in the area.

  2. Report Graffiti to 546-GRAF (546-4723) Report location, colour & description (if hate crime report immediately so that a picture can be taken).

  3. Car thefts — If your car is a front wheel drive, drive car into parking space and turn wheels — this maneuver will not allow your car to be towed away.

  4. Do not leave anything visible in you car.

  5. Use a Steering Wheel Club or Alarm System.
